UPRS Issues Warning Over Misuse of Late Paul Kafeero’s Songs on TikTok
The Copyright Management Department has warned against reproducing and altering Paul Kafeero’s songs on TikTok with misleading or insulting messages.

The Copyright Management Department has issued a public alert and warning over the increasing misuse of songs by the late Paul Kafeero on TikTok and other short-video platforms.
According to the department, several users have been reproducing, re-editing, and re-sharing the late artist’s songs with different messages that in many cases distort the meaning of the original work and, in some instances, insult or undermine its artistic value.
As handlers of the late Paul Kafeero’s catalogue and protectors of his legacy, the concerned rights holders have expressed serious concern about the growing practice. They note that while digital creativity and public engagement are important, the use of protected works must remain respectful and must not damage the integrity, dignity, or intended meaning of the original composition.
The department has therefore called upon content creators, TikTok users, influencers, page owners, and the general public to immediately stop reproducing or adapting Paul Kafeero’s songs in misleading, abusive, defamatory, or disrespectful contexts.
UPRS further warns that if this practice persists, it may result in legal enforcement action, including copyright infringement claims and other charges or remedies available under the law.
The public is encouraged to respect the rights attached to the late artist’s works and to use Ugandan music responsibly, lawfully, and in a manner that preserves the dignity of its creators and their estates.
